Soap making is a fun activity that people should try out. This gives you a chance to make soaps that you will have fun using when taking a bath. If you plan to start with this activity now, the first things that you have to know are the substances that are used to make these soaps. Soaps are primarily made from mixing fats and oils. This is called the saponification process. You can use fats from animal or even vegetable. Other ingredients also include color, essentials oils and dyes. Just mix everything to get the ideal soap that you want to make.
The melt and pour process is practically the easiest method that you can try out. A soap base is already available and you just have to melt them to make the soap. In the melted soap, you can now add your color, fragrances and modify the soap with other ingredients. Pour the mixture in the mold and allow it to dry. Once it does, you can start using your soaps.
You may have an idea on how the cold process of soap making is made. This process does not require any melting or heating. You just have to mix all the ingredients together. Mix lye into water to make the solution. You should carefully add the oils into the mixture until it becomes homogenous. Once you have the soaps poured in the mould, your should cure it for at least 3 days. It will slightly harden so that you can cut the soap but you still have to cure it for additional 2 to 3 weeks prior to use.
The hot process of soap making is similar to the cold process except that there is heat involved. The oils must be heated in pan before adding the lye-water mixture. Continue heating the pot until you have mixed the two components together. The additives comes into the soap post-heating so you need to have them ready. The final soap becomes thick and must be scooped into molds. You can immediately use the soaps after it has hardened.
Handmilled soaps are just soaps which have been melted and cured again. Old soaps are shaved and added into water. This is then melted to make the new batch of soaps. It is up to your creativity to make these soaps unique. This is then transferred into the molds to cure. Once the soaps have cured, you can start using these.
